Pool Filters Sand Vs Cartridge

pool filters: cartridge new or replacement? In case of replacement, the type and where?

Recently bought a house with a pool and cartridge filter jacuzzi larger base. Cartridges are a bit distorted, so we believe that water is filtered through b / c no is not a good seal.
